The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is committed to ensuring Tasmania has the skilled workforce it needs to support our growing economy now and into the future.
We recognise tourism and hospitality businesses are experiencing skills and labour shortages, and that a range of training options are needed to support the sector.
That’s why the Government is working hand in hand with industry and TasTAFE’s Drysdale to future-proof the workforce with a range of new commitments.
We are proposing a new tourism and hospitality skills committee comprised of industry members will be established to advise on training priorities and ensure training more closely reflects industry needs.
We will also work with industry to help them establish an incorporated body of industry members and provide a grant of $1 million for immediate needs of non-accredited training.
Our support will also include assisting industry in its longer term goal of establishing a not for profit RTO to be run by industry, for industry to complement the offerings available through Drysdale.
We believe that competition and choice is healthy in any market, particularly in growth sectors such as tourism and hospitality, and we are excited for Drysdale’s future.
The Government looks forward to working with industry to ensure we address the skills shortage and allow the tourism and hospitality industries to continue to thrive.
