Gradual re-opening of Council venues and facilities

We welcome the great news that many community facilities will be allowed to reopen following the State Government’s gradual easing of public restrictions during the COVID-19 period.

Our recreation and culture are vital to our community way of life.

We’re working to adapt Council business in response, including how we stage the access to our halls and venues, our libraries (run by Eastern Regional Libraries), our aquatic facilities (managed by Belgravia Leisure) and our cultural venues.

There remains many constraints for the safe access and use of community and cultural facilities.

The health and wellbeing of our community is vitally important during this time, so we’re adjusting processes to ensure strict safety protocols are in place for use of public facilities, such as those above, including cleaning protocols, record keeping, movement and flow in spaces and capacity limits to allow safe social distancing.

Considerable changes are required. This means that many of our venues, halls and community facilities will not be available for community use as State Government restrictions ease on 1 June.

When our venues are available for use again, there will be measures in place such 1.5 metre distancing between people, sanitising hands upon entry, reduced venue capacity and records of attendance (for contract tracing purposes).

We’ll keep our Service Disruptions and Closures page updated as we have more information about scheduling access and what measures we have in place to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spreading in our community.

Thank you to our community members for staying home wherever possible, adhering to social distancing, following State Government advice to help reduce the spread of the virus and for their understanding as we navigate these unprecedented changes to the way we deliver services.
