Western Australians are being encouraged to support local small businesses on Saturday, 31 October, as the State celebrates WA Small Business Day.
WA Small Business Day, on the last Saturday in October, recognises the important role small businesses play in local economies and communities, while encouraging shoppers to make a conscious choice to buy from a small business.
There are more than 258,000 small businesses across Western Australia, accounting for around 97 per cent of all businesses in the State.
Small businesses contribute more than $87 billion to the WA economy each year and employ 35 per cent of the State’s private sector workforce, creating 541,000 local jobs.
Held ahead of the busy Christmas shopping season, WA Small Business Day encourages consumers to look locally when searching for gift ideas.
A free WA Small Business Day toolkit, including social media tiles and a printable poster, is available at smallbusiness.wa.gov.au.
As stated by Small Business Minister Jackie Jarvis:
“Small businesses are the backbone of our local communities, and WA Small Business Day is a chance to thank them for everything they contribute.
“With less than 8 weeks until Christmas, WA Small Business Day is also a timely reminder to shop locally for Christmas gifts.
“To all the hardworking small business owners across our State, I wish you a happy WA Small Business Day.”
As stated by Small Business Commissioner Saj Abdoolakhan:
“The SBDC is proud to get behind WA Small Business Day in 2026.
“This grassroots celebration was created by and for the small businesses at the heart of our economy and communities.
“I acknowledge the events being undertaken across our State today in recognition of how much small businesses mean to WA.
