National weather forecast: Showers, storms east, west of Aus

BOM

Hello with your national weather forecast as we take a look at what we’re expecting for tomorrow. That’s for Saturday, the 31st of October.

Then also a quick look at Sunday, the 1st of November as well. So, the national picture.

And we can see a cold front moving over south-western parts of Western Australia, bringing showers and thunderstorms through the day, but gradually breaking apart over land.

Across the south-east, we have another trough moving through.

That’s really generating windy, wet and stormy conditions all the way from Tasmania and up into Queensland.

Severe weather is possible in some areas, and so we do have a dedicated severe weather update video, which is available to watch now. Showers also continue across the northern tropics.

Otherwise, the rest of the country is looking mostly clear. So now, state by state. Let’s start off with Queensland.

We’ll see showers and storms across central areas initially, then contracting off the coast through the day.

But we will see further showers and storms developing across southern as well as inland areas from the afternoon.

A drying trend across the south-east of the state and becoming hot across the south-west, reaching 40 degrees in Birdsville.

For Brisbane: partly cloudy, mostly dry day, 27 degrees, and a couple of showers sticking around Cairns, reaching the top of 31.

Now down to New South Wales.

We’ll see a couple of showers and storms across the north initially.

They’ll extend into most central and eastern districts as that trough pushes through, with severe thunderstorms across the western slopes and also down towards the Riverina, and very windy conditions across the Snowy Mountains as well.

The only exception will be the north-east and also the far west, which should remain mostly dry through the day.

And we will see some cooler south-south-westerly winds pushing through at night behind the trough. Otherwise, a warm and humid day. Sydney going for a top of 28 degrees.

Showers and thunderstorms most likely from the afternoon, and Canberra as well. Showers and storms again, most likely from the afternoon. Top of 25 degrees.

Now, Victoria will be an unsettled day as that trough pushes through the state, showers extending to all districts as you head into the afternoon.

We could also see damaging winds with those storms, including around the Melbourne area, and very windy conditions across the alpine peaks.

Those showers and storms can track away from the west as we head into the afternoon and evening, and pretty much confined to Gippsland as we head into the night-time, with cooler south-westerly winds also moving through behind that trough.

A mild day, quite humid as well. 24 degrees in Melbourne.

Showers and storms most likely in the morning and afternoon, and a couple of showers and storms early in the day, a top of 30 degrees.

Now to Tasmania.

We’ll see showers and storms picking up with that trough moving through, across the west initially, and then extending to most districts through the day.

It will be quite a warm and humid day though, despite that cloud cover, but we will see those showers contracting away from eastern districts and pretty much only confined to the west as we head into the evening.

For Hobart, a couple of showers, most likely in the morning and afternoon, 23 degrees, and the high teens to low 20s across northern parts of Tasmania.

Now to South Australia. We’ll see a couple of showers across the south-east.

They will gradually clear away as a high-pressure system starts moving across western parts of the state.

That will produce much clearer conditions, but we could still see the odd shower about the coast through the day.

Away from those showers, it will be quite a warm day and sunny up in the north, reaching the mid to high 30s.

Adelaide though, a couple of showers, most likely in the morning, with a mostly sunny afternoon. Top of 23 degrees to follow.

Now moving over to Western Australia.

As that cold front pushes through, we’ll see showers building from the west, particularly about the southern coastline.

We will start to see those showers gradually breaking apart as they move towards the Wheatbelt and also the Goldfields, so most of the showers will be closer towards the coast and the far south-west, and we could also see a thunderstorm near the southern coastline.

By night-time, we’ll see showers pretty much confined to the coast, and we are expecting dry conditions to continue across the Gascoyne as well as the Pilbara.

So, a couple of showers, clearing later in the day. Top of 23 degrees, and the high 20s to high 30s further north.

And now to northern Australia.

We’ll finally start to see some clearer weather across the southern NT. But it is really starting to warm up through Alice Springs as well.

Showers and storms continuing across the Top End as well as into the Kimberley.

For Darwin, a couple of showers, going for 34 degrees, and the low to high 30s across the Kimberley.

Now, having a quick look at Sunday, we see this trough moving away over the Tasman Sea.

But showers and storms will stick around the eastern New South Wales coast as well, up into south-east Queensland, where we could also see thunderstorms through there.

A couple of showers also spilling onto the southern coastline.

Not much in the way of rainfall is expected, and also on a drying trend across Western Australia.

Broad areas of showers and storms continue across the tropical north, but for the most part, most capital cities in the south-east will look at a much cooler day, but remaining quite warm to hot across the north of the country.

That’s your forecast for today.
