A $300,000 grant program to improve older Western Australian’s connection to community and support age-friendly outcomes is being made available by the Cook Labor Government.
The Age-friendly Communities Connectivity Grants Program opens today on International Day of the Older Person, to support and promote the development of an age-friendly Western Australia.
It provides grants of up to $15,000 to local governments and not-for-profit organisations to undertake initiatives that help create communities that are inclusive and accessible for people of all ages.
A second funding stream will be available for local governments to work towards becoming members of the World Health Organisation’s Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities and Communities (WHO GNAFCC) to support older people in their local communities to live healthy and active lives for as long as possible.
The grants will fund projects, programs, events and activities that address ageism, aim to reduce loneliness and improve older Western Australians’ connection with their local communities, including increasing digital skills and confidence.
It builds on Western Australia’s status as the first jurisdiction to become an affiliate of the WHO GNAFCC and an international age-friendly leader.
WA is one of only 18 affiliates of this network world-wide which connects cities and communities globally with the common vision of making their community a great place to age.
Grant applications close on Friday 13 November 2026. For more information go to lgprofessionalswa.org.au
As stated by Aged Care and Seniors Minister Simone McGurk:
“We want older Western Australians to age well and stay connected with their local communities.
“These grants will fund projects that improve older peoples’ connections to community and help to achieve age-friendly outcomes.
“The Cook Labor Government is building safe and inclusive communities so that all Western Australians feel security at home, at work and in the community.”
