The establishment of the Mission Control Centre will provide a platform for SMEs and researchers to control small satellite missions. Part of the $19.5 million Space Infrastructure Fund, the new centre will enable real-time testing and accelerated improvement of satellite technology.
Saber Astronautics, a company with space bases in Sydney and Boulder, Colorado, has been awarded a $6 million Space Infrastructure grant to establish the national centre in Adelaide.
The Head of the Australian Space Agency, Dr Megan Clark AC, said the centre would become a focal point for Australia’s national space activities.
“Through the co-located Australian Space Discovery Centre, visitors will be able to view and experience space missions as they happen, and mission simulations, educational displays and exhibits.”
The Mission Control centre will be located at Lot Fourteen with the Australian Space Agency headquarters, as part of the Adelaide City Deal. The South Australian Government is also contributing $2.5 million to the Mission Control Centre.
