Grants awarded to community groups

Ten community organisations have been awarded Community Impact Grants at the August council meeting.

The Community Impact Grants Program aims to empower community organisations and community groups to grow ideas in an innovative and creative way, as well as looking to improve the city.

Community organisations and community groups auspiced by a community organisation can apply for grants up to $3000.

The successful groups included the Albury Wodonga Sri Lankan Buddhist Association, Wodonga Senior Secondary College, Albury Wodonga Aboriginal Health Service, NSW Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors, the LEAP Centre Wodonga, Aphasia Choir, Birallee Park Neighbourhood House, Albury Wodonga Health for its Community Connections Cultural Wellness Fair, Albury Wodonga Multicultural Community Events and Majestic Vanners Australia.

The Friends of Susan Campbell and Kent McKoy Reserves received a Community Impact Partnership Program, which secures grants over three consecutive years.

The partnership program will provide grants worth $27,435 for its project called New Views Trackwork with $8578 in year one, $8995 in year two and $9862.50 in year three.

The project will include gravelling a 500m new walking track on Kent McKoy Reserve and establishing a new track across the ridge link on Susan Campbell Reserve. It will also re-vegetate the walking track surrounds with the aim of enhancing, preserving and improving the bushland environment.

The group will also use the grants to build community capacity by engaging residents to maintain the track, re-vegetate the reserve, maintain planting and weed eradication.
