Five local community gardens are being supported through the latest round of the Community Garden Grants Program.
‘Five groups will share in nearly $40,000 to create more opportunities for Canberrans to grow food, connect with nature and their neighbours, support biodiversity and learn about sustainable gardening.
This year’s recipients are:
- Canberra Environment Centre: establish a bush tucker garden featuring native food plants, cultural education and community workshops
- The Owners Unit Plan No 97 (Brigalow Court, O’Connor): establish a community garden with wicking beds, herbs, fruit trees and seating
- Koala Playschool Incorporated: create a native, pollinator-friendly community garden and gathering space with planting, seating and a street library
- Uniting Care Kippax: upgrade its community garden with a raised garden bed, improved drainage and safer, more accessible pathways
- The Owners, Units Plan 116 (Wybalena Grove, Cook): expand its community garden with new growing beds, improved pathways and shared gardening storage
Since 2015, the Government has funded over one-hundred community garden projects across the city, helping Canberrans grow food, share skills and connect with their local community.
