Grants to support Canberrans to get outdoors and stay active

Applications for the 2021 Nature Play Grants Program are now open with up to $15,000 available for each applicant.

The Nature Play Grants provide financial assistance to eligible organisations that find innovative ways to keep the community active through outdoor play and make use of Canberra’s great outdoor areas, open spaces and natural landscapes.

Nature Play grants can benefit local organisations by providing funding for new outdoor equipment, building nature play spaces or funding programs that encourage outdoor activities like learning to ride a bike or camping.

It’s a great opportunity for Adventure and Outdoor Recreation groups to acquire new equipment and encourage as many Canberrans to play and explore our green spaces, streets and suburbs.

The ACT has the highest sport participation rates in the country and there are many initiatives supported by the ACT Government to break down barriers to participation, especially for women and girls.

However, traditional sports don’t always meet the needs of Canberra’s diverse community and meeting the daily physical activity recommendations can be a challenge. Between work, school and family commitments, maintaining a consistent routine that involves exercise can be difficult.

The grants program will focus on applications that create opportunities for different preferences and changing lifestyles and that aim to support areas of the community that may have been previously under-represented.

I encourage applicants to think outside the courts and explore ways for the community to use Canberra’s great outdoor areas to get fit, play, go on adventures and socialise.

Applications for the Nature Play Grants Program are now open and will close on 6 April 2021.
