Grants To Support Truth-telling Initiatives

The Territory Labor Government is supporting a range of community-based activities and initiatives towards healing, unity, and reconciliation.

Grants of up to $20,000 per applicant open today to assist with expenses associated with developing and delivering truth-telling projects.

Truth-telling is about healing relationships between Aboriginal people and the wider community by:

recognising, validating and building empathy and understanding for the extent of the impact of Australia’s colonial history and its ongoing consequences;redressing injustices from the past; andrecognising the strength, resilience and ongoing sovereignty of Aboriginal people.

A funding pool of $300,000 is available with a second round scheduled for next financial year.

Examples of enterprises are:

the production and distribution of resources or materials (such as posters, videos, websites, podcasts etc.) that acknowledge, raise awareness, challenge myths and misconceptions, reduce stigma, or educate about the impact of Australia’s colonial history on Aboriginal Territorians;activities or initiatives that facilitate Aboriginal Territorians recording or sharing their stories in a safe and supportive way – such as the recording or sharing of oral histories and creative art performances about significant people or events;memorials, monuments or commemorative events about significant people, places or events such as reunions for survivors of the Stolen Generation, plaques, public art memorialising frontier violence and massacres, and the commemoration of key individuals or events in the struggle for Aboriginal rights; anddocumenting research about the history and culture of Aboriginal people, communities, and groups.
