Serving as both Minister and Shadow Minister for science, technology, engineering and mathematics in the Labor team for almost 20 years, Senator Carr will be remembered as a dedicated advocate for STEM.

President of Science & Technology Australia, Professor Emma Johnston AO, says the sector will miss Senator Carr’s passion and experience.

“Whether it was introduction of the Excellence in Research Australia initiative to measure the calibre of our work, the establishment and defence of the Education Investment Fund, or his dogged pursuit for transparency in Senate Estimates, Senator Carr’s will continue to have an enduring impact on Australian science and technology,” Professor Johnston said.

“He has remained a consultative representative and we wish him all the best as a continuing Senator for Victoria.”

“We look forward to Senator Carr’s ongoing support for our sector and enthusiastic engagement with Australian scientists and technologists.”
