Griffith City Library unveils exciting new space with an Open day

Griffith City Library’s new multipurpose function centre is now complete with members of the community invited to attend an Open Day on Saturday, 12 October 2019 to celebrate.

Library Manager Shiron Kirkman is inviting everyone to come along and join in the fun filled day from 9am to 2pm.

“We have a massive day of activities planned for the whole family. Borrow or join up on the day to go in the draw to win a book pack and children can participate in planting our new herb garden,” Ms Kirkman said.

“We’ve got a number of exciting initiatives in development for the Multipurpose Centre, including literacy and coding workshops as well as sensory movie sessions designed for families living with autism or sensory processing disorders.

“We are really excited to be able to offer this new space for our community to utilise.”

During the Open Day the ever popular Rhyme Time will be held at 10am and Storytime at 11am and there will be Virtual Reality displays throughout the morning.

Check out the Big Book Sale including fiction and non-fiction, DVD’s and historical photos.

Griffith Rotary will be cooking up a storm on the barbecue with proceeds donated to Griffith Relay for Life. The clever Knatty Knitters will be yarn bombing the trees at the front of the Library and the Griffith Writers Group will also be joining in on the day of fun.

“The Centre will further enrich Griffith’s diverse community by providing outlets and programs for creative, cultural, academic and social experiences,” Ms Kirkman said.

The multipurpose function centre, designed and constructed by architect Steven Murray and Hammond and Dale Builders, includes a 40 permanent-seat theatrette with in-house projector and screen, audio hearing loop, Smart TV, meeting room facilities and a kitchenette.

The Centre was created by blending smaller rooms, effectively increasing public space by 36m2, and doubling the size of the current meeting room space. It has been designed to accommodate a wide range of public events and activities, from film screenings, lectures, exhibits and workshops.

The new multipurpose function centre is the result of funding received under the NSW Governments 2016/17 Public Libraries Infrastructure Grant Program.

The official opening of the Theatrette room will take place on the 18, October 2019 with the Deputy Premier John Barilaro.
