Griffith heroes nominated for Australia Day Awards

Griffith City Council is gearing up for Australia Day celebrations, announcing 43 community members or organisations that have been nominated for Australia Day Awards.

The local heroes have been nominated for their hard work and contributions to the community across eight categories, including Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year and Club Person of the Year.

Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said Council was delighted to have received so many outstanding nominations.

“These nominees have worked tirelessly devoting time and energy into making Griffith a better place to live for all,” Cr Curran said.

“It is wonderful to see so many citizens being recognised for the outstanding work they do for our community.”

On Australia Day, Council is set to welcome 26 new Australian citizens from 11 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Ireland, India, Brazil, China, United Kingdom and Philippines. The new citizens will receive their citizenship following the Australia Day Awards.
