Griffith produces more quality Physical Sciences research – Nature Index

The volume of Griffith University’s quality research in Physical Sciences has increased in the three years to 2018.

Griffith University now ranks 9th overall in Australia in Physical Sciences research performance, according to the latest Nature Index.

Pro Vice Chancellor (Science) Professor Andrew Smith said he was proud of the result and credited both the university’s investment in people and facilities, as well as the work by Griffith’s institutes and centre directors for building a strong research culture.

“This is a fantastic acknowledgement of the excellence in research driven from our institutes and centres, further echoing the recent Excellence in Research Australia results,” Professor Smith said.

“In the physical sciences we have world leading quantum physics, nanotechnology and materials research.

“There has been consistent investment in people and facilities and outstanding work by our institute and centre directors to build capacity and a strong research culture.

“We are very proud to be recognised in this way in the Nature Index report and Griffith continues to punch above its weight in these key areas that are helping to drive new technology development.”

The Index measured the number of scientific papers published in 82 leading journals in the area of life science, physical sciences, earth and environmental sciences and chemistry.

Globally, Australia’s quality science research output improved, reclaiming its position in the top 10 countries.
