The Pharmacy Guild of Australia has welcomed the election of a new President and Board of the National Australian Pharmacy Students’ Association (NAPSA) for 2020-21.
National President of the Pharmacy Guild George Tambassis said the new President and Board were coming into their roles at an exciting and challenging time for the health sector generally and the pharmacy profession in particular.
“COVID-19 has changed a lot of the ways we have to work in community pharmacy today and this new generation of NAPSA executives will be charged with helping their peers in this new environment,” Mr Tambassis said.
“It is always refreshing to see enthusiastic and talented pharmacy students who step up to take on these NAPSA roles because of their faith in, and commitment to, their chosen profession.”
Mr Tambassis congratulated Ethan Kreutzer from Monash University who has been elected President for 2020-21.
“I am delighted to see my alma mater continues to produce the country’s top pharmacists,” Mr Tambassis said.
“The presidency of NAPSA is a great leadership role and one which is increasingly important as pharmacists strive to work to our full scope of practice,” Mr Tambassis said.
“Having strong representation at the student level is important in achieving better outcomes for the profession and for patients.
“It is also very satisfying to see the NAPSA executive being chosen from such a broad range of pharmacy schools across the country.”
Mr Tambassis said the Guild was a principal sponsor of NAPSA; and this relationship was based on the Guild’s recognition of the important role NAPSA plays in the profession.
“We have enjoyed this relationship for many years and it gives us the opportunity for open and honest communication on the valued role of community pharmacists and the future of the profession.
“I also want to thank the outgoing President Erin Cooper and the Board for their leadership and hard work over the past year.”
