NSW Geographical Names Board
The Geographical Names Board is seeking community feedback on a proposal by Northern Beaches council to name a reserve in Belrose.
Chair of the Geographical Names Board Narelle Underwood said feedback is being sought on the proposal to name Marcus Ghatt Smith Reserve.
Marcus Ghatt Smith Reserve is located at the corner of Perentie Road and Lindrum Street, named in commemoration of the movement inspired by Marcus Ghatt Smith, son of Caroline Ghatt and Tim Smith.
Marcus was born with a severe disability and provided the inspiration behind the innovative movement to create all abilities inclusive playgrounds for children to enjoy.
Council funding was received to transform five neighbourhood play spaces as part of the Belrose Inclusive Play Spaces program.
On 24 August 2017, the first playground was launched, at the site of the proposed reserve. Marcus passed away on 29 April 2019.
Mrs Underwood said the board is encouraging community
