Roma residents can view and comment on the development application for the new $5.95 million student nurse accommodation precinct.
Minister for State Development Cameron Dick said the precinct, to be located near the new $70 million Roma Hospital, will set a new benchmark in regional student accommodation for Queensland and create more jobs for local tradies.
“Student nurses used to stay in demountable units on the grounds of the hospital, or in motels and other short-stay accommodation, so studying in Roma always felt temporary,” Mr Dick said.
“Our government is proud to be creating that feeling of permanency and belonging in the region, and to be delivering more regional jobs while doing so.
“The proposed precinct will encourage a sense of community among students, many of whom may be living away from home for the first time.
“People can have their say on the development application until Monday 3 February, with construction proposed to begin in mid-2020, subject to planning approvals.”
The proposal includes elevated modern residential pavilions, each featuring five bedrooms with ensuites and a kitchenette space.
A large communal pavilion connected to the residential areas will contain a shared kitchen and dining room, with recreational facilities including a shipping container swimming pool.
Outdoor spaces will be landscaped with native plants, and will feature a firepit and seating, together showcasing the unique beauty of regional Queensland.
The project is being delivered under the Palaszczuk Government’s Growth Area and Regional Infrastructure Investment Fund (GARIIF) and is part of a multimillion-dollar infrastructure program supporting thousands of jobs across Queensland.
