Hawkesbury City Council has been awarded $1.08M in grant funding under the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

As part of this funding, local councils were able to choose the projects to be funded in accordance with local priorities that create the greatest benefit for the community, the Federal Member for Macquarie, Ms Susan Templeman said.
“The emails and calls to my office indicate that maintaining local roads and increasing the amount of footpaths is one of the biggest challenges for this large local government area,” Ms Templeman said.
“It’s good to see the funds being distributed across many of the major centres for the safety and wellbeing of local residents.”
Hawkesbury City Council has identified a range of works and projects that can be commenced quickly to distribute the benefits of the stimulus package across the Hawkesbury.
This package of projects to the value of $1,087,629 will comprise footpath and road projects located at North Richmond, Freemans Reach, Hobartville, Richmond, Windsor, McGraths Hill, Mulgrave and Pitt Town.
The projects have been evaluated for their economic benefits, the results of which have confirmed that all of the projects will contribute equally to the stimulation of broader economic conditions.
Council will also look separately at a range of further projects as a second stage for longer term strategic projects. These projects will be finalised as a matter of priority to allow for their commencement in July 2021 or sooner following community consultation, the Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Patrick Conolly said.
“We will use this unique ‘one off’ funding opportunity to benefit as many areas of the Hawkesbury as practicable, while also pursuing some longer term strategic benefits offered by this funding,” Mayor Conolly said.
“Regarding Stage 2 Projects, Council will aim for unique projects that will leave an enduring legacy.
“Once the Stage 2 projects have been determined, Council will communicate with relevant local businesses about the upcoming opportunities to ensure that interested businesses will be ready to participate in any procurement process,” he said.
“We hope that when we spend this funding, we’ll be assisting sectors of the economy that have been most impacted by the slowing economy,” the Mayor said.
“Well considered projects, developed with the active involvement and support of the local community, have the potential to deliver something unique and inspirational. We’re hoping for something that is not only representative of the Hawkesbury’s heritage, geography and culture, but also incorporating the employment of local designers, fabricators, manufacturers and artists.”
