The CLP will continue to back local, sport and major events as we restore our unique Territory lifestyle.
Tickets are set to be released this Friday as the highly anticipated return of international test cricket to Darwin sets fans abuzz.
The NRMA Insurance Test, beginning on Thursday 13 August at TIO Stadium, will mark the first time test cricket has been played in the Top End since 2004, further cementing the Territory’s reputation as the best place for sport and major events.
Minister for Tourism and Hospitality and Minister for Major Events, Marie-Clare Boothby said the ticket release was a milestone moment and another example of the government’s commitment to restoring the Territory lifestyle.
“We promised to create more opportunities for Territorians to get out and enjoy our unique lifestyle, and a big part of that is by delivering major sporting events like international test cricket,” Minister Boothby said.
“And we know that major events like this also attract visitors from all over the world – filling up our hotels, our pubs, our restaurants and tour operators.”
“As a CLP government, we know that there’s nowhere better to live, work, visit and invest, and as Australia takes on Bangladesh this August, the world will see it too.”
“If the last two months of major events are any indicator, demand is going to be out-of-the-park, so get in fast – don’t leave it to the last over!”
The match will see Bangladesh return to Australia for a Test tour, giving fans the chance to experience international cricket in a uniquely Territory setting.
Minister for People, Sport and Culture, Jinson Charls said the event will also have lasting benefits for the local sporting community.
“Territorians love their sport, and this is a great opportunity to be part of a historic moment for cricket in the Top End.
“These events strengthen grassroots participation and inspire the next generation of player, something local talent like Jake Weatherald shows is possible, making them even more impactful,” Mr Charls said.
Northern Territory Cricket CEO Gavin Dovey encouraged fans to join Cricket Australia’s CricketPlus program to avoid missing out on tickets.
“Last year’s T20 Internationals sold out in record time and we expect demand for tickets to the first Test Match in Darwin in 22 years to be just as high.
“CricketPlus members get first access to tickets during this priority pre-sale period and before tickets are available to then general public on 15 June.
“If you’re planning to be there when Pat Cummins, Trav Head, Nathan Lyon and our very own Jake Weatherald walk out at Marrara Stadium in the Baggy Green then this is your chance!”
With strong demand expected following last year’s sold-out T20 Internationals, fans are encouraged to act quickly. Priority pre-sale tickets will be available for CricketPlus members from Friday 5 June to Sunday 14 June, ahead of general public release.
