The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will conduct a hazard reduction burn in Morton National Park from tomorrow Wednesday 29 April, weather permitting.
The hazard reduction burn intends to treat approximately 1417 hectares of bushland adjacent to Tallowa Dam Road and Lake Yarrunga.
All roads within the park will be closed for the duration of the burn.
The hazard reduction burns aim to treat areas to protect local communities, will help to improve protection for built infrastructure from the adverse impact of bushfire, as well as to manage fire regimes to maintain and enhance biodiversity.
For their safety, the public should not enter the area while the operation is underway. Roads and trails will be reopened once the area is assessed as safe. Visitors must check NPWS Alerts for up-to-date information on closures.
Smoke may be visible to visitors in other areas of the national park and from surrounding areas, including Kangaroo Valley and Fitzroy Falls.
