The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is continuing its hazard reduction program in Wollemi National Park this week, weather permitting.
NPWS Wollemi-Yengo Area Manager Phil Bryant said the 2 planned burns were located in the northern area of Wollemi National Park and would treat approximately 2,900 hectares.
Mr Bryant said the hazard reduction operation was taking advantage of favourable forecast weather to reduce fuel loads in the area.
NPWS crews will be assisted by the NSW Rural Fire Service.
The Mt Neilson area hazard reduction, which will begin on Wednesday 26 April, is 20 km south-west of Jerrys Plains, adjacent to Doyles Creek.
A second burn planned for Thursday 27 April will be at Rockview, which is 6 km south-west of Jerrys Plains, adjacent to Appletree flat.
The hazard reduction operations are expected to continue until Friday.
This section of Wollemi National Park will be closed during the burning operation. Visitors should check NPWS Alerts for up-to-date information on closures.
Smoke may be visible around Jerrys Plains between Denman and Singleton. Motorists are advised to drive to conditions.
Anyone vulnerable to smoke is encouraged to remain indoors and keep doors and windows closed to reduce any possible exposure.
