Department of Health

Young people in Geelong will soon have greater access to mental health support and care with headspace Geelong being uplifted to a headspace Plus.

Deputy Prime Minister and Member for Corio, Richard Marles, and Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, Emma McBride, visited headspace Geelong today to announce work is underway to upgrade the service.

headspace is the primary national platform for young people aged 12 to 25 years old who are experiencing, or at risk of, mild to moderate mental health challenges.

Over the past year, headspace Geelong has delivered almost 7,000 occasions of care to nearly 1,500 young people, highlighting strong local demand for its services.

Uplifting to a headspace Plus will see the centre expand and deliver a new model of care to support young people with more complex and ongoing mental health needs.

The Albanese Labor Government is delivering more than $149 million to uplift 30 headspace centres across the country to headspace Plus.

There are currently 175 headspace centres across Australia, with plans to grow to 201 locations.

headspace Geelong is funded by the Albanese Labor Government, delivered by the Western Victoria Primary Health Network and operated by Stride Mental Health.

Young people who prefer online support can also access eheadspace by calling 1800 650 890 or visiting www.headspace.org.au.
