headspace Osborne Park and the Early Psychosis Youth Service have officially opened in a new purpose-built site today.
The service will ensure young people in Perth who are struggling with their mental health can receive local support.
$1.4 million in Commonwealth funding assisted in building the new Osborne Park facility. This financial year, the Australian Government is providing $1.8 million for the Osborne Park Early Psychosis Youth Program and more than $280 million nationwide for the headspace program.
Centrally located, headspace Osborne Park and Early Psychosis Youth Service are free services for young people aged from 12 to 25 who are at risk of, or experiencing, mild to moderate mental illness or their first episode of psychosis.
headspace provides mental, physical and sexual health support, drug and alcohol use support, and vocational services. Its holistic, early intervention approach helps to reduce the duration and impact of mental ill-health.
The Early Psychosis Youth Services Program aims to reduce the risk of long-term psychosis and mental ill-health through specialist support, case management, treatment planning and psychoeducation. It supports more than 4,500 young people across Australia, and almost 200 young people a year at Osborne Park.
