Helping artists get grant ready with free workshop series

Local artists and creative practitioners are invited to take part in a free, three-part professional development workshop series designed to strengthen skills and build confidence in grant writing and funding applications.

Delivered by Creative Ballarat, the sessions will take place on Saturday 27 June, Saturday 4 July, and Saturday 11 July from 9.45am-1.15pm at Co-Lab, Ballarat Central Library.

The series has been developed to support artists and arts workers to better understand and navigate arts funding processes, while building practical skills to develop stronger, more competitive applications.

Participants will be guided through key aspects of grant writing including identifying and analysing suitable funding opportunities, preparing project plans and budgets, responding to selection criteria and developing supporting documentation.

The sessions combine seminar-style learning with hands-on practical exercises, as well as opportunities for feedback and discussion.

City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Tracey Hargreaves said this is an important opportunity for our local creatives to gain a better understanding of how to access funding opportunities.

“Grant funding can be transformative for artists at all stages of their careers but knowing where to start can often be a barrier,” she said.

“These workshops will provide practical, hands-on guidance to help participants navigate the process with greater confidence.”

They aim to improve access to funding and increase the capacity of local artists to secure income and development opportunities through grants, which continue to play an important role in sustaining creative practice and supporting professional growth across the region.

The workshops are timely ahead of the 2026/27 round of the Creative Inspiration Grants opening in August, providing support for creatives preparing applications.

The series will be facilitated by Ballarat-based multidisciplinary artist and designer Anzara Clark, who brings extensive experience across both creative practice and education and training.

Anzara has contributed to grant assessment through peer review panels, including for the Creative Victoria Collaborative Learning Partnership program and Regional Arts Victoria, providing practical insight into how applications are assessed and what makes a strong submission.

Participants may attend one, two or all three sessions depending on their needs. The sessions are free, but registration is required through the Creative Ballarat website.
