Highgate / Perth Assault Charges

Perth Detectives have charged a man in relation to an incident in Highgate/Perth yesterday afternoon, Wednesday 9 September 2020, in which a man and a woman were assaulted.
About 5:55pm the man and woman approached a man who was lying down on the garden area outside their residence, near the corner of Lincoln Street and Beaufort Street, Highgate to check on his welfare.
It will be alleged the man stood up and became aggressive and punched the female victim, who is aged in her 30s, to her face before walking along Beaufort Street towards Perth. When further challenged on Beaufort Street, Perth it will be alleged the man armed himself with a pair of scissors he was carrying and stabbed the male victim, who is aged in his 50s, three times.
Police and St John Ambulance personnel were called to the scene.
The injured man was taken to Royal Perth Hospital, where he will likely be required to undergo surgery.
The attending police officers located a man matching the description of the offender near the intersection of Newcastle Street and Beaufort Street, Perth. The man was initially aggressive towards the officers causing them to draw their tasers, at which point the man became compliant and was arrested without incident.
A 45-year-old man from Perth has been charged with Grievous Bodily Harm and Common Assault. He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today, Thursday 10 September 2020.
