The 2026 Methane Emissions Reduction in Livestock (MERiL) webinar is available to watch.
Participants included:
- researchers
- industry representatives
- government officials.
The purpose was to share the latest findings from projects aimed at reducing methane emissions across Australia’s livestock sector.
The forum showcased:
- results from stage 3 of the MERiL program
- broader efforts to support low-emissions agriculture.
Highlights from the 2026 forum included:
- presentation of findings from completed MERiL 3.1, and updates on MERiL 3.2 projects
- discussion about the results of a range of methane-reducing technologies including seaweed products, Bovaer® and other feed additives
- researchers demonstrated different ways to deliver these technologies to livestock including pellets, water systems, bolus and lick blocks
- results showing methane emissions can be reduced across dairy, beef (feedlot and grazing) and sheep production systems
- researchers showed several technologies could lower emissions while maintaining animal productivity, health and product quality
- presenters provided updates on commercial-scale trials and producer demonstrations that are testing methane-reduction technologies under real farming conditions.
The forum also included updates from Australian Government and work on the:
- Voluntary Greenhouse Gas Emissions Estimation and Reporting Guidelines
- progress towards developing a new livestock Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) Scheme method
- updates from the Zero Net Emissions in Agriculture Cooperative Research Centre.
