Highly employable graduates

La Trobe University graduates are among the most employable in the country, according to a nationwide survey which ranked the University top in Victoria for recent postgraduate employment.

The University also ranked third in Victoria for undergraduate full-time employment, with more than 70 per cent of graduates indicating they were employed within four to six months of completing their course.

QILT (Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching) surveyed graduates from all Australian universities who completed their courses in 2020 and early 2021. The survey measured graduates’ employment outcomes and satisfaction with their courses.

La Trobe Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar AO said the results are particularly pleasing given the profound impact that COVID-19 is continuing to have in Australia.

“Though the pandemic has affected many jobs and industries, our graduates are still in extremely high demand – which demonstrates that our disciplines continue to strongly align with workforce need,” Professor Dewar said.

“Each year we produce career-ready graduates across education, nursing, allied health, agricultural science, engineering and computer science and many other fields, that continue to be sought after.”

Professor Dewar said the results are also testament to La Trobe’s strong industry connections and highly regarded work integrated learning programs.

“La Trobe students are embedded in industry, networking and honing their skills, with many offered jobs even before they complete their degrees,” Professor Dewar said.

La Trobe results from the 2021 Graduate Outcome Survey included:

  • Ranked 3rd in Victoria for undergraduate full-time employment
  • Ranked 1st in Victoria for Postgraduate Coursework Full-Time Employment
  • Ranked 2nd in Victoria for Postgraduate Coursework Overall Employment
  • Ranked 1st in Victoria and 3rd of the 39 UA universities in Postgraduate Coursework Labour Force Participation rate
  • Ranked 1st in Victoria for Postgraduate Research Median Salary
