Hills residents have stepped up to help those doing it tough this holiday season by donating generously to the Mayor’s Library Fine Amnesty.
The annual initiative allows library members to return overdue library items without paying a late fee, in return for a donation of a non-perishable food item.
This year’s appeal saw 828 food items donated and 264 long overdue library items returned.
Mayor Byrne said she was overwhelmed by the generosity, and thanked those who donated to the cause.
“Wow! I’m just blown away by all the donations we’ve received,” Mayor Byrne said.
“It’s been a particularly challenging time for families and residents, and to see people digging deep to help others in their time of need is truly amazing.
“I would like to thank everyone who donated to this initiative. You’ve truly embodied the spirit of Christmas with gifts that give back in so many ways!” Mayor Byrne added.
All donations will be given to Anglicare – a non-profit organisation which provides a range of services that promote safety, participation and wellbeing, for their Mobile Community Pantry.
The returned overdue library items will also be re-homed in Hills libraries for the community to enjoy.
