Winter in Hobart continues to run red hot.

Following on from another hugely successful Dark Mofo, including the City of Hobart Winter Feast, the capital will now play host to the Festival of Voices.

Where once Hobart went into hibernation through the cooler months, it is now a vibrant, living city for locals and visitors alike.

The City of Hobart is proud to support the Festival of Voices through a $51,000 Events Partnership grant.

“The Festival is another star in our winter sky,” Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said.

“Since 2005, it has been wonderful to see the community gather in winter with people from around Tasmania and interstate to unite in voice, bringing economic, emotional and mental health benefits.”

Festival Director Isobel Marmion welcomed the partnership that supports the injection of warmth into the Tasmanian community this winter.

“We are thrilled to partner with the City of Hobart to deliver vocal performances, showcases and interactive events to more than 30,000 people expected to enjoy the event and inject money into the economy as they gather for this inclusive 10-day event,” Ms Marmion said.

While the Festival also brings great economic returns – last year contributing $2.5 million to the Tasmanian economy via interstate travellers alone – it is the spiritual benefits that reap the greatest rewards from such an event.

Hobart Creative City Portfolio Chair John Kelly said this was another demonstration of the capital’s evolution and how combining community and culture was producing great outcomes for Hobart.

“Hobart has grown to be a winter destination with such events like this,” Cr Kelly said.

“Having locals and visitors embracing our winter and gathering together gives us so much more than just dollars and cents, but also a sense of joy and friendship when it is easy to bunker down and await warmer weather.

“The vibrancy and life it brings to Hobart is brilliant and are we are proud to continue to support the Festival of the Voices.”

The Festival of Voices runs from 30 June to 9 July.
