Home Builder Grants

Michael Ferguson,Minister for Finance

The Tasmanian and Australian governments are working closely to ensure both its home builder grant programs, which were designed and announced separately, are complementary and simple for application.

The Australian Government recently announced a $25,000 grant for home builders, in addition to the Tasmanian Government’s $20,000 grant.

The Tasmanian Government will administer both grants in Tasmania, and the guidelines are currently being aligned and are expected to be issued tomorrow once final details are agreed.

Labor should not only get behind these schemes and welcome the opportunity for Tasmanians to potentially access up to $45,000 for their new home build, but they should also not be spreading misinformation.

Labor knows too well that the Government has been clear the grants will be available for recipients who enter into a contract to build by the end of 2020, not for the building works to commence by then.

The policy announcement makes Tasmania the best place to build a home, with the initiative set to stimulate investment in the private sector, it will strengthen and underpin the economy, and it will create thousands of jobs.

The best way to get our budget back on track and to grow business confidence and create jobs is to grow the economy, and that is what we are doing.
