Horsham to host state tennis tournament

Tennis Victoria’s State Teams Championships will return to Horsham this month when Horsham Rural City Council and Horsham Lawn Tennis Club host the popular event.

The Victorian State Teams Championships is the ultimate title for our team tennis events program, capped off with the awarding of the Pat Cash Cup to the most prosperous region.

The 2024 Victorian State Teams Championships will be played between 13 teams made up of six Country Victoria representative teams and seven Metro Melbourne Associations.

Some 180 players will compete in the round robin tournament across under 12, under 14 and junior open age girls and boys events.

It’s the first year of HRCC’s three-year agreement with Tennis Victoria to bring the competition, and the subsequent economic boost, to the Wimmera.

Mayor Robyn Gulline wished good luck to all competitors.

“We welcome all players, their families, and supporters to our regional city,” she said.

“Events like the Pat Cash Cup are a great way to showcase the unique surrounds of the region.”

“I would encourage everyone while they’re here to take some time between matches to check out our beautiful river and our great cafes and restaurants. Good luck to all competitors,” Cr Gulline said.

Tennis Victoria Interim CEO Tamatha Harding is pleased to see Horsham Lawn Tennis Club hosting the Victorian State Teams Championships.

“We extend our best wishes to all teams and participants in the 2024 Victorian State Teams Championships tournament. This esteemed tennis event holds a rich legacy, and we look forward to an exciting weekend in Horsham,” Ms Harding said.

“I thank the dedicated volunteers at Horsham Lawn Tennis Club for hosting the 2024 Pat Cash Cup. We also thank the Horsham Rural City Council for their unwavering support of this prestigious tournament.”
