- More than $8 million awarded to four Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations through the second round of the Aboriginal Employee Housing Grants Program

The Cook Labor Government is continuing to strengthen housing outcomes for employed Aboriginal families in the Kimberley and Pilbara, with more than $8 million awarded through the second round of the Aboriginal Employee Housing Grants Program.
The program supports Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) to increase the supply of housing for Aboriginal employees and their families, helping organisations attract and retain a skilled local workforce.
Four ACCOs have been funded under Round 2 and will share more than $8 million to deliver 13 additional homes through new builds and spot purchases.
The four Round 2 funding recipients are:
- Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service, Pilbara region;
- Wyndham Youth Aboriginal Corporation, Kimberley region;
- Yura Yungi Medical Service Aboriginal Corporation, Kimberley region; and
- Nirrumbuk Aboriginal Corporation, Kimberley region.
The Round 2 announcement follows the successful first round of the program, announced in January 2025, which allocated $10.44 million to six ACCOs.
Since then significant progress has been made , with all Round 1 new build projects now under construction.
Of the 19 new-build homes, 10 have reached the fit-out stage, five have been completed and are awaiting electricity connection, and four modular homes have completed bases and frames.
Across both funding rounds, the Cook Labor Government’s $18.44 million investment is supporting the delivery of 39 homes for employed Aboriginal families across the Kimberley and Pilbara.
The Aboriginal Employee Housing Grants Program is part of the State Labor Government’s record $10.8 billion housing investment since 2021.
As stated by Housing and Works Minister John Carey:

As stated by Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel:
“This grant funding will make a significant contribution to the great work that Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service provides for Aboriginal people in the Pilbara.
“This round of funding builds on the significant investment that the Cook Labor Government has made into Aboriginal housing throughout the Pilbara.”
