A panel period contract awarded today provides five Territory companies with the opportunity to undertake housing and related-infrastructure works as part of a $39.5 million housing project across three East Arnhem communities.

The investment, which will deliver 40 new homes as well as Room to Breathe works, is included in $177 million worth of remote housing tenders across 16 communities to be awarded in the coming weeks.

The East Arnhem works will run over 36-months to deliver new homes and upgrades in Yirrkala, Nhulunbuy and Gunyangara.

These works are part of the Territory Labor Government’s $2.1 billion remote housing program which includes a $550 million contribution from the Australian Government.

Multiple work packages will be allocated between the successful panel tenderers across the three communities.

In addition to the 40 new homes, around 24 existing homes will be extended and upgraded through the Room to Breathe program. Contractors plan to use local suppliers and sub-contractors to complete construction works.

Since coming to Government in 2016, the Territory Labor Government has delivered $982 million in housing works across a range of programs, funded by the Territory and Australian Governments. More than 2800 homes have so far been built, extended and upgraded, including works completed and underway.
