Hume Cricket Hub Promises To Be Hit

VIC Premier

Hume cricketers will have more opportunities to hit a six, thanks to works commencing on the Hume Community Cricket Hub, backed by the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence joined Member for Greenvale Iwan Walters, Hume City Council Mayor, Cr Joseph Haweil and local cricket representatives to officially launch the works, made possible by a $1.5 million investment from the Labor Government’s Community Cricket Program.

Located at the popular Greenvale Recreation Reserve, the hub will offer keen cricketers a six-wicket indoor cricket training facility complete with an adjoining pavilion.

The new facilities will provide year-round training opportunities for people of all ages and abilities and give aspiring cricket stars the chance to develop their skills through expanded competitive and community programs, tournaments and camps.

Once complete, the Hume Community Cricket Hub is set to be a game-changer for the local Greenvale Kangaroos Cricket Club and the community’s cricket fans, providing more opportunities for people of all ages to grab a bat and ball and enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits of participating in community sport.

The Victorian Budget 2023/24 provides more than $213 million to deliver new and improved community sports infrastructure and support initiatives that boost participation and inclusion in local sports clubs and organisations.

It’s part of the more than $1.9 billion invested in community sport and recreation infrastructure since 2014, including more than $24.3 million invested in vital community cricket infrastructure projects.

The Hume City Council also contributed more than $4.5 million to delivering the Hub.
