Hundreds of ways to stay busy these school holidays

With the summer holidays underway, the City is encouraging residents to get out and about to enjoy the hundreds of free and low-cost activities happening around the coast.

“City of Gold Coast is dedicated to providing a range of experiences for the kids to keep them entertained and educated throughout the school holidays,” said Gold Coast Councillor Hermann Vorster.

“We have free nature-based workshops, free artistic, reading and writing lessons at our libraries, plus free and low-cost sporting and outdoor activities to keep the youngsters active on their break.”

The Summer Reading Club will celebrate ‘People, Places and Stories’ these holidays giving kids an incentive to keep their reading up over summer. Weekly challenges will include writing, drawing and reading, with the chance to win prizes such as one of 12 family passes to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and book packs.

Shootaround Showdown

School holiday fun is headed to Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre with the Shootaround Showdown event. There will be eight courts available with individuals and groups invited to have a friendly game of basketball or a 1-on-1 of casual scrimmage while listening to high energy tunes from a live DJ. Make sure you bring your own ball, and the courts are all yours.

When: Friday 15 December from 3pm to 9pm

Who: All ages (under 14s must be accompanied by an adult)

NaturallyGC Kids

Switch screen time for green time with dozens of activities to keep the kids entertained while learning more about our natural city’s flora and fauna. Kids can become mini marine biologists or wildlife warriors, discover insects, reptiles and sea creatures or learn about indigenous culture with Dreamtime stories and art.

Active and Healthy

The Active and Healthy program runs more than 200 free and low-cost weekly activities including a jam-packed 12- week school holiday program. The line-up has something for everyone including dance parties and discos, pop up playgrounds and inflatable ninja challenges, laser skirmish, Blazepod warriors and much more. Gold Coasters can go in the draw to win a $500 voucher by singing up to Active and Healthy Connect.
