Incredible work across health sector recognised

Associate Professor Margie Danchin has been recognised for her incredible work across the health sector during the COVID-19 pandemic last year.

Associate Professor Danchin was one of four winners of a 2021 BioMelbourne Network Women in Leadership Award announced today by Victorian Parliamentary Secretary for Jobs, MP Jane Garrett.

She received the Directors Award for leadership, impact and inspiring others amid the pandemic which included:

  • Leading a research program around vaccine uptake, focussing on education, communication and building vaccine confidence. The initiative has engaged with different priority and community groups via a series of virtual ‘Town Halls’ as well as the government at state and national level
  • Running the Victorian COVID-19 Vaccine Preparedness Study to understand peoples’ attitudes and concerns around COVID vaccines. This work will be used to tailor effective communication strategies and target vaccine information in partnership with the State Government
  • Leading the COVID-19 vaccine confidence training program for health care providers, industry groups and community and faith leaders from diverse communities, including recent migrants and refugees and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It focuses on building “vaccine champions” in communities and strengthening community engagement to help people overcome practical barriers to vaccination and to address questions and concerns

Associate Professor Danchin was acknowledged at the awards for being an outstanding communicator and highly respected for her warmth, integrity, and decision-making skills.

The BioMelbourne Network Women in Leadership Awards celebrate women who are committed to driving change in the health industry and inspire more women to pursue leadership roles.
