Tasmania’s residential and small business power prices have been confirmed as the lowest in the nation.
Minister for Energy and Renewables, Nick Duigan, today welcomed confirmation in the Office of the Tasmanian Economic Regulator Annual Report, which also found power bills for customers with concessions have fallen.
“This shows our energy plan is working and Tasmanians are paying Tasmanian prices for Tasmanian power,” Minister Duigan said.
“We know how much power bills impact on everyday cost-of-living pressures.
“Because Tasmanians use more power than households on the mainland, its vital we continue to have the lowest power prices in the nation.
Treasurer, Michael Ferguson said the report is positive news for both residential and small business customers and is the envy of other states.
“We are also ensuring those who are struggling are supported, with our Liberal Government providing some of the largest concessions in Australia as a further benefit to living in Tasmania.”
The Office of the Tasmanian Economic Regulator found:
- Annual bills under regulated residential general usage/controlled load and time-of-use tariffs in Tasmania are the lowest under equivalent regulated tariffs in all jurisdictions;
- Tasmanian small business electricity prices are also highly competitive. Annual bills under Tasmania’s regulated small business general usage and time-of-use tariffs are the lowest under equivalent regulated tariffs of all jurisdictions; and
- Annual bills for concession residential electricity customers in Tasmania and several other jurisdictions fell compared to the 2022 Report, due to increases in the value of concessions offered by governments.
Mr Duigan said that the Rockliff Liberal Government’s energy policy will always focus on growing renewable energy supply to ensure we have the power we need to continue to build the economy and create jobs while at the same time ensuring power bills are kept as low as possible.
“Our Tasmania First Energy Guarantee is making that happen.”
