Industry leader urges Council to embrace eco-friendly transport solution

Ahead of Queensland’s Local Government Elections, an industry leader is calling for support to further embrace the concept of golf car communities in a bid to ease traffic congestion, reduce parking issues and promote eco-friendliness.

Golf Cars Australia CEO Colin Sergis is advocating for the adoption of golf cars as a practical yet revolutionary approach to reducing traffic congestion, parking problems, and environmental impact, while also fostering a more inclusive and caring community fabric.

“This is an ideal initiative that if adopted, displays a commitment to a forward-thinking strategy that promises to transform urban living,” says Mr Sergis.

“Golf cars are a game changer for master-planned communities, both existing and future planned.

“With speeds capped at 50km, they create a safer environment for foot traffic and they’re also eco-friendly, emitting zero emissions and reducing air pollution and noise.

“The United States has seen a large increase in these communities, and we’d love to see more councils embrace golf car communities in Australia.”

Already Queensland residents in Sanctuary Cove and Hope Island have adopted golf cars as their preferred mode of transport within their communities, heralding a new era of green transportation.

Sanctuary Cove local Tim Davies says he made the switch to a greener and more convenient lifestyle just over a year ago for the benefit of his young family.

“Upon moving to Sanctuary Cove, we sought a second family car, but after seeing the prevalence of golf cars in the village, we chose a Club Car Onward 4-seater golf buggy for its evident advantages over traditional vehicles,” says Mr Davis.

“It’s been a game-changer for us, we use the golf car every day for various errands and outings and save roughly $100 per week.

“Whether it’s taking the kids and our dog to the park, grabbing groceries, or going out for dinner, the golf car has become an integral part of our lives.”

Mr Sergis says one of the most significant benefits of owning a golf car in these residential areas is the council’s permission for their usage.

This green light from local authorities not only makes golf cars street-legal but also endorses them as a practical means of transportation within the community,” he says.

“The result is a seamless integration of these electric vehicles into the daily lives of residents, enabling them to explore their neighbourhood in a fun and eco-conscious way.”

Mr Sergis says golf cars present an economical choice for families, not only in terms of reduced fuel costs, but also in maintenance costs.

“The cost of owning and maintaining a golf car is substantially lower than a traditional vehicle, especially as they have fewer moving parts and the electric powertrains minimises maintenance expenses,” he says.

“Moreover, the relatively low upfront investment in a golf car proves to be a wise financial decision, given the substantial savings on fuel and upkeep in the long run.”
