Last month, quick-thinking officers at Gracemere Police Station resuscitated a lifeless 10-week-old baby boy who wasn’t breathing.
The child’s mother who lives nearby attended the front counter at 4pm on Wednesday, September 2 after discovering her son in respiratory distress and not breathing.
Officers from Gracemere, Duaringa and Rockhampton Child Protection and Investigation Unit were already at the station as part of an ongoing operation.
Three officers immediately commenced CPR on little Lucas, who displayed no signs of life.
They requested urgent additional assistance including Queensland Ambulance Service.
After a short period of CPR, he started to breathe again and regained consciousness.
Police continued to provide critical care to him until the arrival of Queensland Ambulance Service.
He was taken to Rockhampton Base Hospital and later airlifted to Queensland Children’s Hospital for specialist treatment.
Diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, Lucas is back home with his parents in Gracemere.
Doing well since the scare thanks to the quick action by the officers.
