It’s easier being green with a free tree giveaway in Parramatta

Residents are encouraged to go green this September with the return of Council’s annual free tree and plant giveaway.

Four free native trees for each resident are up for grabs to help expand on the City’s greenery and increase the tree canopy across Parramatta.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Sameer Pandey said Council was committed to helping residents green their neighbourhoods.

“In the past five years, Council has planted more than 500,000 trees, native shrubs and ground covers across our LGA. This is just one way local residents can get behind that effort,” Cr Pandey said.

“Next year, we’ll also extend the offer to local businesses so the whole City can get on board.

“These trees will help provide more shade, cooler suburbs, and enhanced liveability for our communities for generations to come.”

Cr Pandey said the City was a leader in environmental sustainability.

“We have already achieved big things. Whether it’s being the first council in Western Sydney to achieve Climate Active carbon neutral certification or our participation in the OPENAIR program, we have proven that we are serious about improving our environment.”

The annual tree and plant giveaway will kick off this Saturday and take place over three weekends with 1000 trees available for residents each day. The first two weekends (2 and 9 September) will be ticketed, with the third (16 September) non-ticketed.
