It’s show time: bigger and better FRINGE returns to WA

  • FRINGE WORLD festival returns to WA from January 14 to February 13
  • 2022 event expected to be the third largest FRINGE festival in the world
  • McGowan Government provides $3.6 million support for festival
  • Additional $1 million for artists affected by COVID-19 continues to roll out
  • FRINGE WORLD supports hundreds of local jobs and provides an important economic boost for local businesses
  • The FRINGE WORLD Festival will return in 2022 bigger and better than ever, with the McGowan Government providing a significant funding boost.

The 2022 festival, which will run from January 14 to February 13, will be the third largest FRINGE in the world, with hundreds of thousands of people expected to binge on a bonanza of Western Australian creative and artistic talent.

The McGowan Government will provide $3.6 million to FRINGE over the next three years through Lotterywest to help support the event and the establishment of a new free community event: the Lotterywest FRINGE FUNDAY.

The FUNDAY will be a key opening event on the first Sunday (January 16) of FRINGE WORLD and is expected to attract 40,000 people.

This builds on the McGowan Government’s $1 million commitment to the Getting the Show Back on the Road+ program to support artists, including those involved in the 235 independent FRINGE WORLD events impacted by COVID-19.

Since 1994, Lotterywest has provided more than $13.1 million to ARTRAGE, which runs the FRINGE WORLD Festival.

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

“FRINGE 2022 will be a terrific event, with the WA edition expected to be the third largest FRINGE festival in the world next year.

“My Government is proud to provide funding for FRINGE WORLD so the WA community has access to free community events and to support local artists.

“I encourage all Western Australians to take part in the excitement of FRINGE WORLD and get along to one of the hundreds of events on offer.”

As stated by Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman:

“FRINGE WORLD is an opportunity each year to showcase the creativity and great talent of our local artists and performers.

“Our arts and culture sectors not only provide wonderful entertainment for the community, but economic analysis has shown that for every $1 invested in FRINGE WORLD 2021, $23 was spent in the local economy.

“This created 257 full time jobs, in addition to the 450 staff employed by ARTRAGE.

“Don’t miss the 2022 festival and start planning your FRINGE WORLD experience.”

As stated by Perth MLA John Carey:

“The upcoming FRINGE promises to be the biggest and best yet, thanks to a significant funding boost from the McGowan Government.

“This time of year is always a fantastic time to get into the city to see a show and support businesses in the CBD.

“So get your family and friends together and enjoy everything FRINGE and our great city have to offer.”
