Jaensch “Doesn’t Know”

Tasmanian Labor
  • Minister incapable of answering critical questions
  • Unacceptable ignorance of child safety issues
  • Hands off when it comes to Ashley Youth Detention Centre
  • Roger Jaensch has this morning provided a three hour display of why he is utterly unfit to be a Minister.

The Minister for Human Services is responsible for some of the most important portfolios in Government including housing and looking after vulnerable children.

Shadow Minister for Human Services, Alison Standen said that on so many questions, Roger Jaensch’s answer was that he didn’t know.

“He claimed he didn’t know about serious concerns of child sexual abuse at the Ashley Youth Detention Centre until they were raised in the media.

“He didn’t know how many strip searches had been conducted by AYDC staff who have been stood down pending investigation.

“He didn’t know how many children leave Ashley straight into homelessness.

“And he didn’t know how many children at the AYDC are on care and protection orders.”

Ms Standen said the Minister’s performance in housing was little better.

“It beggars belief that Roger Jaensch does not know how many housing titles have been transferred to the community sector.

“It is alarming that the Minister responsible for such critical portfolios is incapable of providing answers to important questions.”
