Jamberoo dog park – clarification

Kiama Council

Jamberoo entrance

Kiama Council supports the creation of a dedicated dog off-leash area in Jamberoo, however the project is not funded in Council’s 2023-24 budget, as was reported inaccurately in an article in The Bugle on 17 June 2023.

Council is in the process of scoping the project. This process will involve identifying and applying for grant funding before the project can commence, as well as further consultation.

Council Officers have done some preliminary work to identify potential sites in the Municipality that may be suitable for a fenced dog park, however more assessments and a community consultation would need to occur if and when the project gets funding.

A Council spokesperson confirmed: “The Jamberoo dog off-leash park project is not currently in Kiama Council’s 2023-24 Budget and the development of this project will be wholly dependent upon attracting grant funding.”

“If and when funding is secured, the project will require additional consultation, both internally with appropriate staff, and externally with the community, before it can proceed.”

“We recognise the community’s enthusiasm for this project and we’re pleased to note the progress in preliminary discussions with community groups and scoping of potential sites to date.”

Council is currently researching appropriate grants and will update the community when we have further information.

Kiama Council currently provides 9 dog off-leash areas in our municipality.
