Jobless rate still worst in nation under Hodgman

Tasmanian Labor
  • Unemployment, underemployment, participation worst in Australia
  • Jobless numbers for Tasmanian women still disastrous
  • Hodgman continues to do nothing
  • Tasmania’s jobs emergency continues to roll on under the weak leadership of Will Hodgman.

Labour force figures today confirm that Tasmania’s jobless rate of 6.7% is still the worst in the country, while underemployment and participation rates remain diabolical.

More than 5,100 full time jobs have been shed over the past 12 months while Will Hodgman fails to act.

Shadow Minister for Economic Development, Jobs and ICT Michelle O’Byrne said the Minority Liberal Government was failing to protect and grow jobs.

“Thousands of jobs have been lost in the last year under Will Hodgman,” Ms O’Byrne said.

“While Will Hodgman sits back and does nothing, it’s harder for Tasmanians to find a job than anywhere else in the country.

“The Government promised the best jobless rate in the country but instead Tasmania is languishing at the bottom of the table.

“Will Hodgman and Peter Gutwein have failed, and Tasmanians are paying the price.”
