Premier Mark McGowan today turned the first sod signalling the start of construction on Chevron Australia’s new headquarters at One The Esplanade in Elizabeth Quay, Perth.
It is expected that about 1,200 jobs will be created on-site during development and construction, with major flow-on work through local contracts.
Brookfield Properties and Multiplex have partnered with Chevron to develop the new 29-storey tower, which will provide 57,000sqm of office and retail floor space and is capable of housing about 3,000 people, at the corner of Barrack Street and the Esplanade at Elizabeth Quay.
The building will be anchored by Chevron and will include childcare and gymnasium space with retail tenancies and café/restaurants on the ground floor, and is expected to be completed by mid-2023.
The new tower, with a construction value of $362 million, is the latest development to Brookfield’s suite of significant investments in the Perth market, which will bring more life into the Perth central business district precinct.
Chevron is a significant investor and leading employer in Western Australia. The company operates the Gorgon and Wheatstone natural gas facilities and manages its equal one-sixth interest in the North West Shelf Joint Venture.
Chevron continues to work closely with the State and industry through the McGowan Government’s LNG Jobs Taskforce to develop local industry capability and promote opportunities for local businesses to win operations and maintenance work at its natural gas facilities.
Recently, Chevron together with its joint venture partners helped Australia replace Qatar as the world’s biggest exporter of LNG. Production from WA accounted for 57 per cent of the national total of 77.5 million tonnes of LNG exported last year, surpassing Qatar’s estimated total of 75 million tonnes.

“The new 29-storey tower will add to Perth’s skyline bringing with it more optimism to the property development sector. The build will create thousands of jobs during construction and cements Brookfield and Chevron’s long-term position in Perth.
“Key infrastructure projects like these signify long-term investment in Western Australia; they help drive growth, create jobs, draw more people into our city and boost our economy. It has been made possible through the successful collaboration of Brookfield, Chevron, Multiplex and the State Government.
“Creating jobs for Western Australians is my priority. I’m pleased to mark the construction of this job-creating development which will be here for many generations to come. This is a significant long-term investment into Perth and I would like to acknowledge celebrated builder Multiplex and developer Brookfield in working with Chevron to realise this major project.
