Four junior researchers at the Department of Medicine, Solna, have each been awarded a three-year research grant from the Swedish Rheumatism Association as part of a special initiative focusing on rheumatic systemic diseases.
Each year, the Swedish Rheumatism Association announces an open call for research grants in rheumatology. In addition to this open call, the association also makes targeted three-year investments in specially prioritized areas. This year, the focus is on rheumatic systemic diseases, such as systemic sclerosis, myositis, vasculitis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and Sjögren’s disease. Through this targeted initiative, the Swedish Rheumatism Association aims to support junior researchers who wish to establish themselves as independent researchers in the field.
The four researchers will each receive SEK 500,000 per year for three years. All four are affiliated with the Division of Rheumatology at the Department of Medicine, Solna , and are members of Per-Johan Jakobsson’s research group .
The projects:
- How the immune system affects muscles during cancer treatment – a mapping using advanced analysis
- Mechanisms of tissue damage in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies
- Improved understanding of systemic lupus erythematosus through organ-specific molecular profiling (RESOLVE)
- Inspiratory muscle training in rheumatic systemic disease
