Police have broadly been pleased with the behaviour of road users in the first week of Tasmanian schools returning and are encouraging drivers to keep sticking to the rules.
“We’ve all seen more traffic on our roads now that kids are back at school, especially during the peak morning drop off and afternoon pick up times,” said Inspector Jim Semmens.
“We know this can be frustrating, but we really need people to continue sticking to the rules to keep our kids safe in school zones.”
“Speeding and not paying attention puts all road users at risk, and police have been out across the state this week enforcing the rules.”
“We’ve also had Transport Safety inspectors conducting speed checks in school zones, to make sure people are slowing down as required.”
“Drivers need to slow down to 40km/h or less in school zones, and within 50 metres of a school bus with its lights flashing.”
“Slow down, stay alert and help keep our kids safe.”
