As COVID continues to spread across the community those most-at risk, particularly older Canberrans, are encouraged to use the many resources and grants that can assist them stay connected and support their needs.
Assistant Minister for Seniors, Veterans, Families and Community Services Emma Davidson is reassuring older Canberrans of various support and services to help meet their health and wellbeing needs such as:
- Priority grocery assistance
- ACT Seniors Directory
- ACT Seniors Card
- Get to Know Your Neighbour, ask for help or offer support
- Access mental health support
“Canberra is a place where we are kind, caring and willing to lend a hand to those in need. We know older Canberrans are at a greater risk of COVID-19 and more likely to experience isolation or loneliness due to restrictions over the past two years,” Minister Davidson said.
“There are so many organisations across Canberra who are dedicated to supporting the physical and wellbeing needs of our community, including peak bodies Council on the Ageing ACT and ACT Disability, Aged and Carer Advocacy Service.”
Several grants are also open to assist communities most at-risk of isolation or loneliness to stay connected and engaged.
“Canberrans know what they need to stay connected with their support networks during this time. However, some cannot access resources or technology to do this which can impact their health and wellbeing. Grants are a fantastic opportunity for people to get the support they need to be part of the broader Canberra community,” Minister Davidson said.
“Many in the community have spent the last two years feeling isolated and lonely, particularly older Canberrans. It’s critical that the community have opportunities to shape how we can become a more inclusive, caring and connected city.
“These grants will empower the community to lead our recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic – identifying what is needed to ensure that everyone can stay connected, healthy and able to participate across the ACT.”

Technology Upgrade Fund to support people most at risk of digital exclusion, such as those with mental health issues, disability, young people, older people, and from culturally and linguistically diverse communities have greater access to services and support through technology. Disability Inclusion Grants for community groups, organisations and small businesses to become more accessible for people with disability, such as through inclusive programs, building modifications and training.
