Keeping Rosebuds pop-up parklets permanent

MPSLogo_News.jpg

We all know Rosebud is going through a major transformation with millions of dollars being funded into the area. With new amenities such as YAWA and the Southern Peninsula Youth Hub it’s becoming the fastest growing township on our Peninsula.

And rightly so because Rosebud is visited by many locals and visitors.

The pop-up parklets dotted along the closed service lane on Point Nepean Road are a feature of our Rosebud Placemaking and Activation Project and have become a very popular place to visit.

We now want to keep the temporary Rosebud Placemaking and Activation Project ongoing, so we’re inviting you to vote if you’d like to see them as a permanent fixture.

In December 2020 we temporarily closed and activated the service lane on Point Nepean Road (between Rosebud Parade and Ninth Avenue), and made it a pedestrian-friendly place. This created an inviting, fun and safe public space for everyone to enjoy.

We received $30k from the State Government as part of the Neighbourhood Activity Centre Renewal Fund and we joint funded the rest. With the money we were able to:

  • keep the current four parklets open in 2022
  • provide shade structures
  • beautify the shopping strip with more plants
  • furnish the parklets with trees, planter boxes, indigenous plants, bench seating plus real and artificial grass.

The project coincided with our outdoor dining program resulting in an increased number of people using the area. This specific street activation trial offered a family-friendly, safe and beautiful place to be. Our local traders were also appreciative for the increase in business to the area.
