Kick-start your health journey with free telehealth exercise

Over the next three months, the community will be able to undertake free exercise-based training sessions from the comfort of their own homes, thanks to a telehealth exercise clinic being run by students and staff from the University of New England (UNE).

Participants will receive a free screening and assessment of their current health status and will be provided with a comprehensive exercise program tailored to their individual health and fitness goals.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for you to start your health and wellbeing journey,” says Jen O’Sullivan, who will be overseeing the clinic.

“Throughout your engagement in the telehealth clinic you will be provided with health, physical activity and exercise education as well as advice and support.

“Importantly, you are able to sign-up for a day or time that is convenient for you, with all sessions being held online in the comfort of your own home.”

While all sessions will be supervised by accredited exercise physiologists and sport scientists, the clinic will provide final-year exercise and sport science students with the practical experience needed to complete their degrees.

Your engagement in the UNE telehealth exercise clinic provides students with the valuable opportunity to apply their skills in an emerging area of exercise screening and prescription whilst also supporting them to be work-force ready.

Jen says it’s a chance to not only kick your own health and wellbeing goals, but to help ensure 40 UNE students can confidently enter the workforce.

“All students enrolled in an exercise science degree at UNE are required to undertake supervised practicum hours in the final trimester of their degree,” she says.

“Your engagement in the UNE telehealth exercise clinic provides students with the valuable opportunity to apply their skills in an emerging area of exercise screening and prescription whilst also supporting them to be work-force ready.”

To take part, participants will need access to a reliable broadband internet connection, a suitable device, and a safe space to exercise.

A minimum of six 45-minute sessions will be required, and can be undertaken at any time between now and October.
